Up. Down. Round. Rinse and Repeat.

The last time I posted was September 11th. Over 2 months ago.

It was a post about PND, submitted by another mother. An absolutely lovely piece of writing.

I’d like to say I’ve been away, to somewhere fun and doing exciting things and letting life carry me away, but sadly that’s not the truth.

I’ve neglected my blog, my readers, my social media accounts, because of, well, illness. And of course life, because you know, work, toddler etc, it does keep one busy!

Physically, I’m fine, healthy almost (barring the many pounds I should be shedding) but mentally I am not.

Many people, who suffer from mental health illness often run dual lives. To the outside world they portray what they choose to show others, and then behind closed doors they present how they really feel. Sometimes the two overlap.

The stigma surrounding mental health contributes towards this. People projecting to the world how they think they should be seen to be feeling and not how they actually are feeling.

If you know me, then you may have noticed that I haven’t been myself, I may have snapped at you, jumped to conclusions, been rude or mean, disassociated myself, shown no interest and well I could go on and on and on…. I’m sorry, I’m working on it.

It is EXHAUSTING. I am exhausted.

For the next few months I’ll be in and out, posting occasionally, maybe not posting at all. Maybe posting a lot. Who knows.

Hopefully a correct (further) diagnosis and medication will help me on the right track.

Coming Soon!

The blog has been pretty neglected recently, what with moving, settling, working and parenting. Plus, you know, sleep!

But I do have a few things coming soon.

I’ve been testing a new hand wash from Dettol, with e45. So there will be a review coming soon for that.

Little Duck and I have also been testing a new cream from Oilatum Junior. So there’s a review coming for that as well.

I’ve also got some new designs of bottles coming from Tommee Tippee UK to try out. So stay tuned for that post too!

But for now, I’m taking a well deserved break, and spending a girly weekend with some mummy friends.
Little Duck is spending the weekend doing Daddy/Daughter things.

Have a great weekend all, I’m back in July!

Voice Blogging

Recently on one of my Facebook groups the topic came up about blogging.

One of the ladies asked if there was any way to speak your blog posts as opposed to typing them out.

To be perfectly honest I didn’t have a clue, despite having blogged for nearly 6 or seven years now. The fact that I have had an iPhone for six or seven years now, you’d have thought I’d known! Who knew that you could open notepad on the iPhone and speak into it and it would record everything you’ve said, as text?!

Not me apparently!

So I thought I’d give it a try.

This post has been composed by speaking into notepad instead of sitting here and typing it into the tiny little keyboard with my fat fingers.
Granted I’ve had to edit it as I’ve gone along, and I’ve had to delete lots of sections because it’s wrong due to being misinterpreted, with some extremely funny results along the way. But mostly? It’s been pretty cool and pretty quick!
And kind of fun.

It took me three attempts to write that last sentence by the way, my iPhone kept interpreting it as “I’m kind of fun”, which is true but not what I was trying to say!

Is this the way forward? Will I continue to blog in this manner? Who knows? I’ll probably forget by next week. Or maybe I won’t.

It doesn’t surprise me that I’ve come late to the party. I bet loads of bloggers post in this manner. Better late than never I suppose!!

#4 of 22

Yesterday I posted about 22 writing prompts for bloggers aiming to inject humour into your writing.

Today I’m attempting prompt number 4.

The weirdest thing found on your person.

It was about 3 years ago, Christmas time. An annual event where friends go out for a civilised fun night out, drinking, secret Santa gift exchange, dinner and merriment.

I am surprised that we haven’t been banned from the local area, as mostly we are never civilised. We are mostly like 8 year olds pretending to be grow ups.

20140313-090544.jpg
The night inevitably ends with the table candle poofed out and wax everywhere, and bits of Christmas hats smoking in the remnants of Christmas pudding dishes, plus handbags filled with stolen condiments and salt and pepper shakers. Once I found a miniature gravy boat in my handbag the next morning.

But the weirdest thing I have ever found. Is flattened sculptures of candle wax in my bra.
My body heat had softened the wax and my boob moulded the sculpture into quite a beautiful piece of art.

Shame I didn’t keep it or take a photo really.

Mind you, I probably have done and will no doubt find it in 25 years time.

22

I follow a fair few blogger sites across various Social Media Platforms.
Recently I came across a post about Being More Funny, and injecting some humour into your posts. Why? Well, because I was surfing the web and I came across it.

But, seriously.

Why?

Because it’s fun to make others laugh and it’s fun to laugh too!

The post was by Susan Maccarelli on BlogHer. Susan also writes at Pecked to Death by Chickens.

I am not a deliberately funny person. But I thought I’d give it a go. The prompts anyway. The funny will be a work in progress!

There are a few that I probably won’t do.
Like, #5 If __________ were Kardashians. Because. You know. Kardashians…. I mainly haven’t a clue who most of them are!

And #15 The Story of how you lost your temper. Because it would be story after story and it gets boring after a while.

Then there’s #16 Kids Quotes.
Emma is one. The funniest thing she’s ever done is say to the ringing phone/doorbells “who’s dat?!”. A very short post indeed!

But some of the rest I will definitely have a crack at.

#3 What’s in your bag. A photo blog!
#4 Weirdest things you’ve found on your person.
#8 Giving birth saga – especially apt as Emma’s 1st birthday draws near and I still haven’t shared my birth story. Part of it may have to be a video clip. Although it could potentially be construed as offensive? So maybe not!
#22 A list of rules for your children to follow in public places, because education is important to young minds!

The creative juices are flowing!
Stay Tuned!!

Cybher 2013

Today I experienced my first ever bloggers conference, Cybher.

Over the last week I have been up and down and well, round the houses (emotionally so to speak).

Having Bells Palsy, being a new mum, having to chuck my breast milk away because of medication, and well the list was never ending (ok, that’s a lie, I’m grossly exaggerating), so yesterday I was in a horrible mood, sad and down and mopey.

I’d booked to go on my first ever bloggers conference. I was nervous and excited. Apprehensive and slightly worried (think new kid at school) and the bad flat mood was unhelpful. I’d said to The Husband that I needed to snap out of the mood. I wanted to have a good time.

Then this morning, I woke up at 3:40, and then 4:30 and then stayed awake until it was time to get up at 5:45.

It was exciting! My first ever blogging conference, Cybher. With other real life actual bloggers who write stuff.

I loaded up the pram, got Emma sorted and chucked on some upbeat tunes and set off into London.

We arrived and got registered!

Despite my being worried about my wonky face from Bell’s Palsy, I turned to the woman next to me, and well, she had Bells Palsy too. Talk about a bloody coincidence! Things like this never happen to me! We were both very surprised and laughter ensued! Between the both of us we had a full face!

There were talks, coffee breaks, more talks, more coffee breaks and it was fabulous. Did I mention the coffee?
COFFEE.

We (by we, I mean of course *I*) looked at branding, how to make things go viral, using photographs and lighting in your photos, how to make money from your blog and much more!

I spent a lot of time standing by plug sockets, ensuring that my iPhone was charged, god forbid I ever be without it. I’m very surprised that Twitter didn’t chuck me in the slammer for excessive tweeting (also hit the 1000 follower mark!)

The main session that I really wanted to attend was “Sh*t you didn’t Know” and ironically I spent most of the session in the baby changing rooms changing, well, shit. The irony, not lost on me was pretty hilarious.

20130601-230046.jpg

Lunch was awesome. In fact it was so awesome I posted about it here an hour after it happened. Small food!!! I love food and I love small things!
The food at Cybher rocked.
Wee tiny sliders with Brie and caramelised onions.
Teeny fish with chips and minty mushed peas.
Asian baskets with tempura veg, samosas, won tons and filo parcels.
Beet root and goats cheese salad bowls (didn’t eat that on account of I hate goats cheese).
Mini bowls of fruit salad.
Cute little dessert that looked pretty but I have no idea what it actually was.

20130601-230247.jpg

There were more talks.
I took photos of stuff. Tried to be artsy fartsy. (I think it worked)

20130601-230421.jpg

I made new friends.
I learnt new things.
I picked up tips.
I had a GREAT time.

The cocktail hour was pretty awesome (with more small food!) and fabulous company.

After a long and amazing day, Emma and I headed home, knackered.

20130601-230548.jpg

Cybher was a fantastic conference and I loved every single bit of it.

I haven’t felt so alive and passionate for blogging in a while. Attending has reignited me and pulled me back (without the need for drugs) into a colourful and bright world.

Over all it was easily the best money I’ve spent and I’m definitely buying my Cybher14 ticket as soon as they go on sale.

I want to express a HUGE thank you to the organisers and speakers.

I really enjoyed my day and I can’t wait until next year!

I’m going to BritMums Live!!!

BritMums Live is just over 4 weeks away. 4 weeks!!!!
It will be my second blogging conference ever. The first is about 2 weeks away! *stick head in brown paper bag*

You’ll have known me (or not) have a sad on twitter because all the blogging conferences are (were) in the US and WAY too expensive for me to attend. Until last summer I stumbled upon BritMums Live AND Cybher! Finally, blogging conferences I could afford to attend.

My excitement is immense, but so are my nerves! *looks for brown paper bag* I don’t really know anyone, my blog isn’t as well known as some, I’m taking my new baby with me, will she cry during my favourite bloggers talk/panel? (I’m sorry and apologise in advance to HerBadMother) and also, one of my favourite bloggers is speaking at BritMums. I am going to get to meet her! What if my head explodes?!

So when BritMums Mari posted to twitter a short intro linky, I thought I’d give it ago.

So here goes!

Name: Becca – it’s actually Rebecca, but being called Rebecca is a lot like being told off. “Rebecca! That’s enough wine!” “Rebecca! What have I told you about doing those types of things in public?!”

Blog: Mrs Flams! You’re here!!!!!!!!

Twitter ID: @becca_masters

Height: 5ft 2, I think

Hair: Currently? A mishmash of brown, scraped up into a messy bun. On the day? Probably the same!

Eyes: two of them. Brown ones.

Is this your first blogging conference?

See ramblings above. Currently, yes. On the day? It’ll be my 2nd! I’m sure ill be a pro.

Are you attending both days?

Yup!!!

What are you most looking forward to at BritMums Live 2013?

HerBadMother! *small scream* seriously, the whole lot!

What are you wearing?

Probably something covered in bits of sick and poo, sadly not because of an epic night out though, but because I’m bringing my new baby who will be slightly less new at 12 week old.

What do you hope to gain from BritMums Live 2013?

Learn new things and meet new friends!

Tell us one thing about you that not everyone knows

Ummmm, I haven’t the foggiest. I’m pretty much an open book. Have you seen my twitter feed?!
