Sure ✔️ Maximum!

After working with Sure on their Motionsense Compact Deodorant campaign, they sent me a new product to try. Sure contacted me about two new deodorants they have introduced to the market, the Maximum Protection Sport Strength and the Maximum Protection Stress Control.

(Had to wrestle it off of Emma!)

They sent me the Sport Strength deodorant to try at the end of August, and I’ve been using it since, and only finished it last week. Its a cream deodorant and you turn the bottom to push the cream up, to apply it to your underarms after your bath or shower and boom, up to 48hrs protection.

I really liked it. It smelt nice, it felt nice, and it does indeed keep you feeling fresh for a long while. Well, with a claim of up to 48 hours protection, I had to try it out. You know, to cover all bases for an accurate review. Don’t judge me, I’m a parent to a demanding kid and I work full time, some days I don’t even get out of my pyjamas. Also gives me peace of mind, that I won’t be so much of a stinking slob when I’m sick and spend a week in bed.

Now, I’m not one for sports. At most, my “sports” consist of walking the mile to the station every morning, and the mile home in the evening (when I’m not being lazy and getting the bus) and running after Emma and shopping and then if I happen to be on my feet at work (which lately hasn’t been much!)

“The NEW Sure Maximum Protection Sport Strength has a vibrant citrusy fragrance, and is specially formulated as the ultimate preparation tool to protect against sweat and odour during exercise.” So says Sure. They weren’t wrong either. I REALLY liked this deodorant.

The full range includes Stress Control, Sport Strength, Clean Scent, Confidence, Sensitive Dry and Everyday Fresh which Sure claim are:

🔹2x stronger than the leading antiperspirant

🔹Strong enough to protect you but still mild enough to use everyday

🔹Give you confidence to enjoy those moments that matte

Sure also say that their Maximum Protection is formulated with innovative TRIsolid™ technology that boasts:

🔹 Extra Strength dryness protection. Applied at night, it works as you sleep to form a level of protection, giving you unbeatable wetness protection for the day ahead. Equally, you can apply it as part of your morning routine

🔹Patented fragrance technology containing odour-fighting microcapsules. The microcapsules dissolve when you sweat, keeping you fresh throughout the day

🔹Skin moisturising ingredients to help protect the skin from irritation – the whole range has been endorsed by expert dermatologists

Would I buy this product? Yup!

Would I recommend this product? Yup!

There was only 1 thing that I didn’t really like, and that was that some of the product gets stuck in the top once it’s done. I thought I still had some left, but it turns out I didn’t; So I ran out and didn’t have to put on after my shower on Sunday morning! I’d clicked it as far as it could go, but a good 2-3 applications were wasted, as it was stuck; and nothing I could do could get it out. Perhaps a design flaw? Probably just Physics though. That said, that’s to 48hr protection, I was covered until I got to the shops to restock!

This time I purchased the Stress Control one, and I like it as much as the Sport Control. The entire range retails at £4.90 rrp and can be purchased at leading chemists and supermarkets.

(The product was given to me to review by Sure. All words unless otherwise indicated are my own and solely my own opinion)

My pits and I thank you Sure!

Sure!

When Sure contacted me, asking me if I wanted to review their Motionsense™ technology deodorant, of course I said yes. I had a great opportunity to test it out, thanks to moving house.

We moved house and everyone knows that moving house is stressful and mostly involves dirt, dust and heavy lifting. The last two times we’ve moved, we’ve moved to top floor apartments in a 3 storey building, and NO lifts. Thankfully this time it is a ground floor (YAY!) apartment, but heavy lifting was still involved. Thankfully it wasn’t too hot, not that it mattered, as it was still hard work and made everyone very sweaty. By the end of the move, whilst I was sweaty, I still smell fresh. BONUS.

Lets talk about how it works.

Sure has created the world’s first antiperspirant containing breakthrough Motionsense™ technology that is activated directly by movement.

Motionsense™ technology means that Sure contains microcapsules that burst with friction so the more you move, the more it protects. Which is pretty cool.

So after you’re all clean and dry from the shower, you spray under your arms. You don’t want to do this too close to your skin as the concentrated application becomes very powdery; similarly you don’t want to spray it from too far away, otherwise you’re just wasting it and effectively using it as an air freshener!

The spray contains tiny microcapsules which sit on your skin (cause that’s where you sprayed it!) and as you move, the friction created (think swinging arms, lifting things etc) causes the tiny microcapsules burst, and once that happens you’re all fresh again (and smelling nice too)

It comes in regular size canisters and compressed compact sized canisters. The compressed packaging now means that Sure is the perfect size to fit in your handbag and due to the compressed nature of the can, it means that you get the same amount of product but less air is released when you spray it.

Sure sent me the compact size, which is indeed handy for my handbag. That said, I can never find anything in my handbag, without first emptying it all out (#firstworldproblems), so I really would benefit from a clever device that could help me find things easier. My suggestion to Sure is to add a florescent strip or similar to the compact canisters, to help women with big handbags find their Sure deodorant quickly. Or, if we’re being technologically savvy, fitting each canister with a small LED light, and transmitter, and having an app so you can activate the LED to flash using a simple button on your smart phone. Or I could just get a smaller handbag and be a little more organised and a little less pack rat. I should probably throw away the months or receipts too.

So Sure sent me a small compressed canister of their deodorant and I used it.

Usually I do a job that can be quite physical, lots of walking, and in the summer it is HOT, especially working on trains that sometimes don’t have air conditioning.

To be fair, the winter can be just as harsh, as you’re constantly going from the freezing cold, into very warm trains. You have to dress for the cold, and its not practical to take off all your warm clothes each time you board a train, so you get hot and sweaty quite quickly. So far, Sure Motionsense™ deodorant holds up its end of the bargain, it’ll be interesting to see how it works over the winter months.

Sure compressed has been developed to be softer on your skin, whilst will still providing you with the same level of sweat protection no matter what you do.

What I liked

~ its small and easy to carry round

~ it does what it says on the tin!

~ it smells nice

What I didn’t like

~ spraying too close causes my armpit to look like a winter wonderland

~ my handbag is full of crap and it takes ages to find (my own fault!)

~ its quite an intense scent when sprayed in a small area (ventilation is your friend!)

~ it doesn’t taste very nice (keep your mouth closed when using it)
Will I buy this in future?

Probably. In fact, very likely.

Would I recommend this to others?

Sure! (See what I did there?)

Massive thanks to Sure for sending me the product to review.  You can purchase Sure Motionsense™ at most chemists and supermarkets.

Oilatum Junior

products sent (not shown – towel & candle)

Emma hasn’t had amazing skin since she was little. She’s got a mild form of eczema, which doesn’t really present a problem, but we were given some cream for her to use after her baths.

So when I was asked if I wanted to review Oilatum Juniors new range for kids, of course I said yes! We’d already been sent a bottle of the lotion, which we found was much better for Emmas skin than the generic emollient cream we were prescribed. It was less greasy and tacky for a start.

Included in the gift basket we got were some very cool things to make bathtime more fun! (Or funner…should I say)

A lovely soft white hooded towel from The White Company, bath toys and a lovely bath thermometer. Not to mention a lovely smelling candle for me to use once bathtime was over and I needed to recuperate! Bathtime is exhausting with a toddler!

In 2012 a survey was taken by 280 parents (16-64) with children between the ages of newborn and 16. 44% of these parents claimed that their child/ren have had a dry skin condition. Oilatum launched a new range (see above!) to help parents care for their children’s skin. The Oilatum Junior range contains ultra mild products that have been expertly formulated with dermatologists to gently and effectively clean the skin of little people (and bigger people!) without the worry of skin becoming aggravated and to help combat an prevent dry skin.

The Oilatum Junior Cleansers Range contains these items; (see photo above)

~a shampoo, which is soap free and also contains a gentle conditioner to help with tangles

~a head to toe daily wash

~a foaming bubble bath

~a moisturise lotion

Oilatum Junior very nicely sent us all 4 products and we love them. They clean really well, and Emmas skin is noticeably less dry. We wash her hair twice a week (unless she some how managed to get something disgusting in it) and the shampoo leaves her hair clean, soft and smelling really nice. I could sit and smell her for hours (she doesn’t sit still though!) The moisturiser isn’t greasy or sticky and absorbs really well, and doesn’t stain your clothes either.

Definitely products that we will continue to buy and use as well as recommend to others.

You can buy the range of products at all leading grocery stores and chemists.

Much thanks to Jen and the team at Oilatum Junior!

The views and opinions posted are my own, however products were gifted to me by Oilatum Junior for review.

Dettol with E45 – Review

Just before we were due to move, I received a new product from Dettol and E45 to review. THANKS!

Hand-wash.

I am constantly washing my hands, due to nappy changes, messy toddler clean ups, food preparation, general cleaning, and well, you know, using the bathroom myself!  Constant washing of hands, means constant moisturising of hands, which I often forget to do.

So getting a hand-wash that contains a well known moisturiser was a tad exciting (don’t judge me!)

Thanks to the lovely staff at Spink PR, I got a 250ml Dettol with E45 hand-wash with Lotus Flower in my mailbox.

Dettol with E45

Firstly?

It smells DIVINE. There is nothing better than using a product that smells nice and makes your hands smell nice and clean.

Secondly?

It was like washing my hands with, well, I want to say silk, but I’m not sure it’s the right word I’m looking for… the feeling was silky, even after rinsing all the suds off. My hands felt soft and very hydrated.

Thirdly?  I LOVE IT.

Needless to say the hand-wash is pretty much done because I used it so often, although there were times when I had to use a different hand-wash, like when out and about or at work, and it’s probably a little OTT to carry your hand-wash of preference around with you in your handbag… or is it?

Will I buy it? YEP! In fact, normally this hand-wash is £2.50 RRP and you can purchase it at most well known supermarkets and places like Boots and Superdrug. HOWEVER, it has just come on special offer at Tesco.  It’s currently on sale at £1.25 until the 11th August 2014. Guess who’s due an online Tesco shop?  ME!

The product I received was with Lotus Flower, however you can also get it with Honey or Camomile.  I haven’t tried the other two products, but I’ll most certainly be picking up a few of them when I do my online shop.

I’d say overall that we (I say we, I mean I, because The Husband is all “its hand-wash…”) LOVE it.  I’d take it everywhere with me.

The only thing that I’m not happy about is that other places don’t have this as their first choice of hand-wash, but that can’t be helped, or likely changed! Come on everyone, swap your hand-wash!

Thank you to Spink PR and to Dettol for giving me the opportunity to *review this product.

Because I love this product so much (and I’m about to go and buy a lot of them) I am going to give away 3 bottles of Dettol with E45 hand-wash (did you see that there are 3 different ones! exciting!) to 3 lucky readers. All you need to do is share this post on any (or all) of your social media platforms, and comment here. Competition closes 1 week from today at 5pm GMT on Wednesday July 30th 2014. Open to UK and NI residents only. Winners will be selected by random.org

* I was sent this product free of charge to review and provide an honest post. The giveaway I am running is not endorsed by Spink or Dettol and is of my own doing.

A Monster Ate My Mum

A few weeks ago, someone RTd a tweet. It was an author looking for bloggers to review her new children’s book.
My brain went “ooooh book!”

You see one of my hopes for Emma is that she has the same fondness and love for books as I do.

I want her to be able to delve into the world of imagination and lose herself amongst stories of fairies, and princesses, and girls who live in mountains, and find secret gardens and boys who solve mysteries and whatever wonderful stories that come from the muses.

I want her to be excited to get books for birthdays and Christmases. I want her to ask to visit the library and book stores.

So I contacted the author, Jen Faulkner aka Instinctive Mum, aka @MonsterAteMyMum and a few days ago it landed in my postbox.

20131109-141002.jpg

Although the book is aimed for children between the ages of 2 and 12, I still wanted to do the review. You see Emma is only 7 months old. But to me that didn’t matter because you’re never too old or young for books.

A Monster Ate My Mum is a book about Post Natal Depression through a child’s eyes. A little boy wanders from Monster to Monster looking for his mothers laugh, her smile and her spark. It’s aim is to help children understand that sometimes their mum is sad or tearful, that she is snappy and that most of all it’s not forever and it’s not their fault.

I’ll admit, it’s the first product I’ve had for review which has reduced me to tears.

You see, although I am not one of the 10 – 15% of new mothers who has been diagnosed with Post Natal Depression, but I do have a history of depression as well as anxiety and PTSD. It’s something that I manage on a daily basis and some days I do better than others and on other days I really struggle.

I like that there’s a book that we can sit down and read together so that Emma understands that when my bad days are bad, that a monster has been to visit.
Because let’s face it, that’s what depression is, a lying monster.

It’s a really clear and simple to understand book, which flows very easily thanks to the rhyming words Jen uses. The pictures are very imaginative too. Emma seems to like it, and apparently, just like her mama who dislikes the monsters (in real life), she decided this morning to rip a page out of the book! Don’t think she liked the monster who ate mums spark… I caught her trying to eat him!

I would really recommend this book, especially if you have or have had depression, whether it be Post Natal Depression or not. It’s an enjoying read, and also, Christmas is coming up soon, so perhaps a stocking filler idea?

You can buy it from Lulu.com and it retails at £7.49 for a paperback (although it is currently now on sale for £5.99) or 99p in ebook format for instant download.

If you think that you may have depression, or you’re not sure if you have post natal depression or a touch of the baby blues, please do see your GP. You can also, refer yourself to your local Mental Health Community Service. If you are a post natal mum then you’re referral will usually be pushed to the top of the waiting list too.

Remember, “depression lies”, and it is something you can overcome. Always ask for help, because it will always be there, sometimes you just need to find the light to chase away the dark.

I would like to thank Jen for sending me a copy of her book to review. I’ve never had a review product that has 1) made me cry and 2) been so completely in tune with me.

I love it, and I hope that my love for books rubs off on Emma, and that in future she doesn’t rip the pages out and try to eat them. That’s not the definition of book worm that I had in mind!

I now need to find my Sellotape to fix the page that Emma tried to eat.

Toilet Seats – A Review

Today I received my 5th email from Argos asking me to review a toilet seat that I purchased about 2 or 3 weeks ago. Many will remember that one Sunday I woke up to find out toilet seat had a massive crack in it and neither Flams or myself could understand how it had happened. Needless to say it couldn’t stay that way, so I had to go out to buy a new toilet seat. I didn’t spend a huge amount of money, or go to a specialist bathroom store, because, it’s not my property. Instead I went to Argos and paid £14.99 and bought a simple white standard looking toilet seat.

Bemis Thermoplastic Anti-bacterial Take-off Toilet Seat
£14.99 (up until 12/10/11) from Argos.co.uk (cat no. 833/4369)
This item is available for home delivery within 2 days.

At first when I received the request to review it from Argos I thought it was funny and I wondered how many people had recently reviewed their toilet seat purchases. I decided I was going to post a review on my blog, but I never got round to it. Until today.

The name tickles my funny bone “take-off” toilet seat. It conjures an image of you flying off to a magical place once you’ve sat down. A bit like the bed in Bedknobs and Broomsticks, but less hygienic and more messy. Picture it, you pull your pants down, take a seat and all of a sudden the toilet seat flies you up into the air, shrinks in size, and off you whizz down the toilet to a magical poopy Narnia-esque land.

I had to look up thermo-plastic (cause whilst I like to tell everyone that I am a clever-clogs, I’m not always up on my vocab). If you don’t know what it means, then basically (from what I understand) is that whilst your tushie is sat on the toilet seat, your body heat warms the plastic up and it then becomes less hard, thus making your toileting experience much more enjoyable. Next time, take a book/magazine/handheld games console with you. In fact you may as well install a television in your bathroom, causing it seems pooping and peeing has never been more comfortable!

I like the fact that it’s anti-bacterial, however do not let this word fool you into thinking you don’t have to clean your toilet or the seat you sit upon whilst doing your “business”; I still ensure that my toilet and toilet seat is cleaned on a regular basis with a disinfectant. Think to yourself, if you have husbands who can’t aim correctly, or small kids who can’t wipe correctly and end up getting a load of crap all over the place. This “anti-bacterial” toilet seat doesn’t clean up itself. However if a self-cleaning toilet seat ever hits the market, then I am totally buying it. I despise cleaning toilets.

So to get to the nitty gritty of this review.
It’s a toilet seat. It does the job. The price is good, it’s a standard sized seat that fits most toilets.
So if you need a toilet seat because one morning you’ve woken up to find yours with a huge crack in it, then I’d recommend you get your ass down to Argos and buy this one. Your ass will thank you.

The Arch Duke, London Southbank

On September 21st Flams and I went out for an anniversary meal.

We booked t the Archduke, which is a stones throw away from Waterloo Mainline station and Londons Southbank. Under the railway arches.

Its a lovely sophisticated looking restaurant, with a huge grand piano.
They often have a jazz pianist playing.

We were taken up to the first floor and sat at a table next to a huge floor to ceiling window over-looking the walkway from the station to the southbank. An amazing view for people watching.

I has the asparagus, poached egg and hollandaise to start, whilst Flams had the fish cakes. Both were delicious.

The main courses were rather different. Not in a bad way mind. I had ordered chicken with mash potatoes and green beans with a wholegrain mustard sauce and Flams had ordered the Salmon.
Both came out very hot and well presented, however whatever didn’t specify on the menu was that the chicken was in fact HALF a chicken. Very tasty however Flams finished his Salmon before I’d finished half my chicken. I’d probably have preferred a smaller portion of chicken to be honest! Although one couldn’t say it wasn’t good value for money!

For dessert I had the lemon tart and Flams had cheesecake.

The wait staff were friendly and attentive.

After 2 bottles of Chardonnay later, we grabbed the bill (of which they added 12.5% service) a grand total of £101!

Overall, a recommendation if you’re looking for eats in that area!
